BLUES , BOOGIE AND RUNNING WILD ON THE STREETS OF MINNEAPOLIS.

So last time we talked we were pulling into Minneapolis. What a town . So a few weeks ago my old friend Ron Thompson calls me up and says he will be playing in Minneapolis the same night we are . So I tell him to come by sound check and visit. Oh by the way , if you dont know , Ron Thompson is one of the most special guitar players in the country . He is a master of many of the blues idioms and is a hellcat on African hi life ,even.
I remember when I first moved To San Francisco ,from Texas , my buddie Stevie Ray Vaughn came out to play the Blues festival so I went to visit with him. The first thing he says to me is " Ron Thompson , right ?" And I go what are you talking about " He says " Ron Thompson is the guy i have to blow away out here , right ?" and I said yeah Stevie he sure is ...Becuase we were in our twenties then and Ron had all ready played with John Lee Hooker for 8 years , so we were in AWE of him.
Anywho...so we finished the concert and climbed on the bus and left the Orpheum theater. We were still on the streets of Minneapolis when Isaak said to me " Hey Kenney do you remember the joint that Ron is playing tonight ?" And I said Yeah it is called " Famous Dave's Bubba Q" so he said lets go and play with Ron!!!!!!!!!
so he asked Doug our tour manager , to call the club and ask where the heck it was and he did and we took off over there .
Later, after driving around Minneapolis for thirty minutes we found it. So we pull the tour bus to the curb of a street full of saturday night party people . And some woman kept going "Is the Rolling Stones on that bus ....huh... hey mister tell me right now ... is that Mick Jagger right there ....hey mister... that's him I see him"
Did I mention that she was overserved?
Well i mean to tell you Isaak, Roly , Scott and i pushed by the great "unwashed" and ran into the night club . Ron wasnt expecting us so i flagged his attention and he stopped the show and got us all up to play ...Man it was great .....Isaak sang "Hip shake Baby"and about 3 other songs we havent done in a long time.
And yet again Ron was masterfull . What a talent....And just like that the night was over and it was closing time....so we said good bye to our surprised friend Ron Thompson , jumped on the bus and we were off to Chicago .
BROTHER I always have a great time in Minneapolis ...Always.....
Later.....
