DAYS OFF IN CLEVELAND,BUMPING INTO CELEBRITIES AND THE HALL OF FAME
I woke up at about noon yesterday , got dressed and went down stairs to forage.
I am standing in the lobby of this hotel we are in ( i am sure the stalkers know which one it is ). And who should come strolling out of the elevator but John Fogerty ! So I said " John, what in the hell are you doing in Cleveland " and he said " touring just like you are " He then asked me if I knew where the mall was .I said I didnt because I hadnt left the hotel as of yet. Turns out the mall is connected to the hotel.Sheesh.
I played with Fogerty one time at theTony La Russa animal benefit. Fogerty called up Isaak and asked Chris If he thought I would be willing to play drums for him at the benefit. And Chris said "only if you ask him nice ". What a wise guy . He knows I am a huge Creedence guy. i got to play "Born on the Bayou" with Fogerty that was epic......oh , oh ....i got sidetracked ....then Fogerty walks off and I turn around to walk off myself and who should be standing there but Jim Jarmusch the film maker. I dont know him so I went and introduced myself and told him that as a drummer I absolutely loved in his movie, "cigaretts and coffee",where Tom Waits starts bagging on Iggy Pop about drummers . You have to see the scene it is a riot. anywho I told him that and then asked him what was HE doing in Cleveland ....and he said tht he was there because he saw Tom Waits perform the night before. So I guess everyone does the Cleveland thing !
Today I went over to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame .....I am here to tell you that it was nothing short of amazing ! If you love music history like I do . it is a must see. t
They had TONS of memorabilia. I dont know where to start....I mean John Cippolina's amp rig was worth the 20 bucks alone ....Jeff Beck's tele form the yardbirds,Otis Reddings plane crash metal, Buddy Holly's Magnatone amp for god sake's ! I also saw Michael Carabello's fringe vest that he wore at woodstock when he was in the original Santana. Now he is a friend and neighbor of mine .
So I called him and left a message that if he wanted I could pick up his fringe vest and bring it back to San Rafael for him ..but so far he hasnt called me back.
