GOING HOME TO TEXAS,MYSTERY SOLVED,HIDING UNDER THE BED AND GERMANY
Hey Sorry I havnt posted in a while . So where were we ? Oh yeah. I went home to Texas which is always a blast. And before that I had a day off in New Orleans and my nephew , who is a news camara man there, took me to see the devastation. All I will say about what I saw is you cant get your mind wrapped around the scope of the destruction. It is massive and I dont know if they will ever get it cleaned up.....The French Quarter is still awesome and mostly unchanged. So I think you should still go visit . It is still a lot of fun with a lot less people .
Then My other nephew who lives in San Antonio took me on a nostalgic trip around my old Austin that I used to live in . I even got to go into my old house on Enfield street . What a treat . It is even dirtier than when I lived there . Well we played outside at the Backyard in Austin and it rained like crazy . But the fans hung in there , Bless there hearts. Johnny Reno was there as well as in FT. Worth .
And Johnny's friend Robert Rodriquez, the film maker was there . And he remembered me from when I went to see him shoot this movie "Road Racers" in LA , That was before Robert became this huge director . He did those Antonio Banderas movies as well as others .
So we talked about Johnny Reno stories, one of our favotite subjects........
Then after we played in FT. Worth , Chris and I went to the DFW airport to fly home , since he and I are the only people still left in San Francisco !
Anywho, Chris went to the gate and I went to get coffee...Well as I was getting coffee Adam Dorwitz of The Counting Crows, walks by . Now I dont know him but I just have to ask him a burning question. So I yell " Hey Adam come here" and to my surprise he does . So I intorduce myself and he says no need , He saw us play lots of times at the Nightbreak club on Haight street back in the day.
So I say to Adam , You know, I have received all these emails over the years saying ,that you say, that I am the inspiration for the song "Mr. jones and me" . Is it true ? And he says absolutely . Hey says years ago before they were signed , he saw me talking to a bunch of people ,at a bar, and he and his buddy go man if we can get a record out we can have "friends" too. I went on to tell him that I am a big fan.Great guy . I love his songs "Another night in Hollywood' and "Round Here" So then I was at home for about 6 days before our promo trip to Germany and England. For those 6 days I hid under the bed and so that is why the blog is so behind !
Well a couple of days ago we flew 10 hours or more to get to Hamburg and today we are doing some press, radio and TV ....We are joined by are long time friend jackie , from Warner's music ,who worked on our first tour in 1985. We were just remembering the little hotel we stayed at in the monmarte in Paris on the first tour ...I loved the little place as well as i love Paris sooooo much .
Anywho on to Cologne , tommorow and then London for more TV and Radio...Oh yeah .. there is a gypsy duo playing in the street outside this hotel on the street with accordian and voice and it is mournful and very beautiful. I wonder what they are singing about . Oh well . I have my own singing to do ....
