NOW THIS IS JUST GETTING RIDICULOUS.

I GUESS THIS IS THE BUMP INTO THE FAMOUS SINGERS TOUR.
This morning I got up around noon and as I was leaving my hotel room ,right across the hallway the door opens and out comes Lyle Lovett. Now I have never met him before . I know all ya'll think all Texans know each other , and believe you me, we almost do. So I go hey Lyle . And he goes yep. I say my name is Kenney Dale Johnson and I play drums with hairdo and I am from Texas like you . And unlike Lyle, I am not a Texas institution. So he is very kind and ,what a gentleman. He asks where we are playing and I say we played at Wolftrap last night and today is off and he said he is playing there tonight . He asks where I am from in Texas and ( here we go, and Isaak loves this , because he always laughs because no one ,even Texans , have heard of my town) I say Borger. It is up by Amarillo. And he says "oh yeah I have heard of Borders" you know , trying to be nice . And I start to correct him and then .......oh whatever . Isaak always suggests that we just change the name to border texas with a D instead of borger with a G because that is what everyone thinks I say anyway.
So we part ways and I get back to my room and I think oh shoot , you know I forgot that Lyle and I have some friends in common and we could of talked about them but oh well.....
So I go on my morning search for Starbucks which is very close , yeah if you are wondering I did tell Raphael where it was , and there is Lyle again just getting his coffee.
We start talking again and we visited forever ! I asked him if he remembered a time at a Gavin radio convention, in Boulder ,that he sang by himself at this guys log cabin mansion up on the side of a mountain ? He said yeah Bruce Hornsby was there too . And I said yeah that is the one . I told him that chris and I were there but we didnt get to talk to him . But I brought it up because he sang a song by Steve Fromholtz, a Texas singer who isnt known much out of the Texas region.
I told Lyle that I used to play with Fromholtz, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. I said We played a great circuit that was mainly Texas but included colorado and louisiana .
We also talked about a lighting tech who used to work for the both of us , a bus driver who used to work for us ,the fact that he has a 17 freakin' piece band,we talked about playing in the round like up in Cape Cod on the "spinners", and lastly he was astounded that Isaak signs shirts after the show ...."like conway twitty" i opined. I said damn Lyle how do you get 17 pieces on those small spinning stages we can hardly get 6 . He then told me that they had in fact broke it !!!!!
I told him that Isaak tells of a time he went to see Roy Orbison on a spinning stage and it broke . So the stage hands all got out and stated to physically move the stage by hand . And the only words Roy said all night was he leaned down to the stage hands and said "mush" Like they were a dogsled team. That handed Lyle a big laugh.
So, yet again, we parted ways . He said be sure and tell Chris hey , and I said you betcha.
I then go up to the starbucks lady to order my coffee and she all googeldy- eyed asked me " Was that Lyle Lovett you were talking to " And i said that it was and I thought hey lady "what am I chopped liver" And I suppose the answer to that is a resounding ....Yes.
