WHEELS UP AT MIDNIGHT,THE BEACON,NO JAMES GANG ,YES FOO FIGHTERS!
So we had to make a mad dash after the Cleveland show to a private jet in order to get to New York in time to be at Regis and Kelly at like 8 o'clock. We take off at Midnight and get to New York in a little over an hour ...we get into our hotel and try to get some snooze time in before our 6:30 a.m. wake up call . And man that phone call came mighty early ! With like, minimal sleep we trundle down to the Regis and Kelly studio. And I am trying to decide whether to go the, lots of coffee route or the no coffee take a nap later , route . I go with the later. Suffice it to say Isaak hits a home run . I dont know how he was charming and witty at the same time I could barely keep my eyes open ! He dide a great job of co-hosting the show. What a trooper !
Afterwards we go back to the hotel to take a nap in the afternoon before soundcheck....thank God for my new Zha-Zha black out sleep mask I got in Chicago at the Water Tower mall . Now I can sleep thru anything .
I am here to tell you that I absolutely love playing at the Beacon theater in Manhattan . It is a priviledge in some ways . Right before we went on stage we were standing in the wings, and the walk on music was on ,and I looked up at how old and beautiful the Beacon is and we went out and had a great show .
I hope we come back to Manhattan next year . I loves me some NYC......
We are now at the Borgata in Atlantic City . We did a sound check about a half of an hour ago . Someone had told me a few days earlier that the James Gang with Joe Walsh was playing at the Borgata ,the same time we were . There is an arena here where they play and we play in the soft seat theater . Anywho Joe Walsh was on our TV show, so after sound check , on my way back to my room I decided to see if I could get backstage at the arena using my Isaak backstage pass or Lamo. Well to give you some backstory , about 2 and a half months ago we were at the world famous Sportsman Lodge hotel in LA ,doing production rehearsals, when I bumped into Smokie, Joe Walsh's right hand man . We talked about their upcoming tour and I had said what a big fan of the James Gang I was/am . So on and so forth . and maybe I would see them on tour someplace. Anywho ...so I am having success waving my backstage pass (ala Wayne's World) and saying "I need to talk to Smokie ....tell Smokie Kenney is here " You know, being a jackass....anywho nobody in the arena has ever heard of a smokie . So I am thinking that maybe Smokie didnt make the tour ...who knows ...anyway I finally get back to the tour manager , Gordon , who recognizes me and says yeah the guys are just down the hall go say hi. Well I am walking down the hallway looking in the various dressing rooms looking for Joe Walsh or somebody I recognize and I look into this one room and there is no Joe Walsh but Dave Grohl from Nirvana and now the Foo Fighters is sitting there with his drummer Taylor and i snap " Oh shit the James Gang must be tommorow and tonight is the Foo Fighters . Because I saw that the Foos are playing the Beacon . when I was in New York . So instead of being embarrased I just acted like I knew what I was doing . And frankly I love the Foo Fighters and ,Nirvana ,forget about it , And I have seen Dave Grohl on TV and he is hysterical . So I went in and intoduced myself and they were very nice and we talked road dog shit for a little while and I then took my leave .
He is a great guy and so is his drummer Taylor....I wonder if I should go ahead and try the same thing tommorow and say hi to Joe ? Maybe I should call the concierge and make sure that Joe is playing tommorow night . I wouldnt want to walk in on REO SPEEDWAGON ,God forbid.
