THE ATLANTA SWITCHAROO,GATOR GOTCHER GRANNY,AND FREAKIN RAIN EVERYWHERE

All you people who were at the Atlanta Chastain Park show, all ready know this . A few weeks ago ,now granted I was asleep and was no party to this ,we were on a long bus ride and Roly was shopping on line for a lap steel guitar. Isaak got wind of it and goes to the back of the bus (we have wireless on the bus) and starts to bid against Roly and buys the lap steel out from under Roly . So Roly Is pissed that he missed getting the guitar . And it is a beautiful instrument . It has bake-a-lite handles on the case for christ sakes. Very old.......Then Isaak figures he will surprise Roly and give it to him at the Atlanta show. Isaaks figures he will put "Sweet Lei lani" , the quintessential Hawaiian song, in the set and have Hershel walk out with the guitar and play the song and see if Roly notices . Well we play the song but Roly wont look up or over to Hershel who is playing the guitar .....I mean Isaak even stops the show and says "Hey lets play Sweet Lei Lani" ...still nothing ...then I say to Roly ,because the song is almost over and he hasnt seen the guitar yet, "What is Hershel playing ? " and he thinks I mean what song and Roly looks at me like I have two heads and says "Why ..."Sweet Lei Lani ...Course!" Then Roly finally notices the guitar and Isaak explains what is going on to the audience . And only then does he finally gives the beautiful lap steel to it's rightful owner !
So last night we play at the beautiful Ruth Eckerd in beautiful downtown Clearwater Florida . (Clearwater days , Clearwater nights).......One of the stagehands tells our manager ,Sheryl, not to walk her dog over by the pond by the parking lot . Why ???? Because they have a dog eatin' Gator over there . Well let me tell you I can't WAIT to go see me one of them dog eatin' Gators .....so I stroll over there and sure enough there are a couple of Gators in the pond . So I jump in the brackish water and wrestle a Bichon Frise from the very jaws of the mighty Gator........no, wait a minute....i only dreamed that last part ,but I did see me some Gators . I love Florida . It is by far the wierdest and most unique state in the U.S. , and that includes Texas ,for the love of Mike (said with an Irish brogue)......Like a constant real life Karl Hiassen novel ! Speaking of wild animals the crowd in Clearwater were awesome . They were screaming and partying from the get go . Oh yeah it rained like three times in one day there . No wonder outside my hotel there was a King palm tree seven freakin' stories tall . I have one in my back yard about 15 feet tall , They are pretty rare in northern California . And in L. A. they get maybe two stories tall but ....Man O' Maneschewitz this hotel in Boca Raton had dozens of these giant King palms .
Just think in a couple of days we will be in New Orleans . I cant wait . I wonder if the sickly talented John Royen is still playing Fritzel's bar on the way far end of Bourbon street . I mean to tell you this guy is the "humbler' . He plays old time stride piano better than anyone I have ever heard who isnt dead. I would love for Scotty to hear him because he is one in a million . I will let you know if I see him.
