LUCKY LINDY,ROOSEVELT FIELD MALL AND THE JERSEY HANG ...

Whew......My four day Long Island hang is coming to a close . We are not used to spending so much time in one place . Since Stevie only does like two shows in a row , you have a lot of time on your hands . Shoot we sometimes do 5 in a row . That is a stupid thing to do because our throats get blown out and it is hard to recover once you get behind the eight ball. We did five in a row in Europe last April and I managed . But I remember last year we spent a week in Production rehearsals and I hurt my voice with like 7 days of rehearsal in a row . I was croaking the whole summer so I wont do that again . The voice is a delicate instrument .
Apparently this hotel that I have been in for 4 days is the same hotel that Charles Lindburg ( Lucky Lindy) spent the night in before he took his historic flight to Paris in the 20s. I dont think they have changed the sheets since then either. Nah just kidding .......this is a nice hotel . Now Scotty our keyboard player , makes fun of me because I go to the malls all the time , on tour . Well it isnt that I like malls all that much but when it is hot outside and you just want to get out of your room and walk around, malls are the ticket . You have to be careful you dont march around in the humidity all day and then be too tired to play . It is funny , Waddy Wachtel, Stevie's band leader and guitar player told Chris and I a story about how when we were in Denver one of his musicians ,who shall remain nameless, thought that marching to the top of Red rocks in the thin oxygen would be a good idea . Waddy said he could tell from the first song that the guy was wiped out and he said he took him aside a screamed at him !!!!! There is no screaming in our band . Waddy is from new York so he gets all excited like. He is such a cool guy and great guitar player . He has been sitting in on "Want you to want me " during the tour . He is all over that book "Laurel Canyon" about the music scene in L.A. in the 60s/70s. It is a fascinating read . You should get it .
Oh yeah where was I .......oh the mall. They have this enourmous mall called the Roosevelt field mall by the hotel and it is about the biggest mall I have ever seen...... So it would seem , Lucky Lindy took off on his historic flight to Paris from where the mall now stands ......When you think of someone crawling into a bucket of bolts and flying from here to Paris ( and all of this without a blackberry , mind you ) it boggles the mind . But I made out at the mall. And you now I like to give a shout out to a store when they rock ......MACY'S.........man is that a cool chain or what . I look down in my suitcase and it looks like my socks belong to some hobo or something so I go over to macy's and they have the socks on sale so I buy 10 pairs for next to nothing. And now macy's are everywhere. the other day Mark Scaggs ,one of stevie's guitar techs ,was going on how the Macy's in Atlanta had all these cool shirts for 20 dollars ! Come to think of it guitar techs are not usually sartorial splendors !
Man Mark Scaggs ,a very cool fellow, has been on the road way longer than me even ! I saw a picture of him when he was the tuba tech for John Phillip Sousa !!!!!!
Anywho ....we are winding up this Stevie thing and will soon start our own tour . Can wait.
COMING SOON TO THE WRONG SIDE OF YOUR TOWN
