OH CANADA PAST AND PRESENT.....
Hey there......... free internet in the hotel room !!!!!
It feels like we are in a real transition as far as wireless hotels . Kinda like I cant believe we used to use traveler's checks before ATMS were everywhere! Case in point . We were just in Europe and there were absolutely no free internet hotels in fact some of them charged 35 dollars a day in Australia it was like 25 dollars a day ,for internet . But conversely when we were in Milwaukee ,last year, I was on the free city of Milwaukee internet system from my hotel room ! So things are changing.... but slowly.
We are back in Canada . It has been a long time since we were in the province of Alberta . In the commonwealths everything is Albert this Victoria that , Elizabeth , Edward...etc. Anywho we played in Calgary on monday and they have this great sounding theatre (canadian spelling) called the Jubilee and we are playing the Jubilee in Edmonton tonight. they are wonderful venues . We did the Jubilees twice before once at the end of the Tina Turtle, I mean Turner tour . We came up here and did 3 shows with the Jayhawks opening up . We did Vancouver as well. You know Showbiz is a fickle mistress . The Jayhawks are one of the most talented bands to ever come down the pike and they just couldnt get over the hump . They had great songwriting great everything . I wonder if they are still together . I know they broke up once. But every band that was ever a band is back together. Have you noticed ?
I bump into Gary Louris everynow and then . He was in the Jayhawks and Golden Smog. I bumped into Gary at the Sunset Riot house in LA and I asked him if Jeff Tweedy from Wilco was out with the Smog and he said yes . So I called Tweety to see if he wanted to raise some hell and he said no he wanted to sleep . Fair enough. I am not sure that Tweety and I are cut from the same bolt of cloth! I also bumped into the Jayhawks once at Jerry's Deli in LA . The whole lot of them. Man I have seen more celebs in Jerry's than you can shake a stick at . Like whom you ask.....Well....Billy Barty THANK YOU VERY MUCH.....Gene Simmons from Kiss , Jason Alexander from Seinfeld...and many B actors who you know the face but not the name .
We also played in Alberta in 95 on the tour the Wallflowers were out with us . I remember johnny Reno and myself going boot shopping. That was when I still wore western drag .I have a great shot of Isaak , Reno and myself in front of New George's in San Rafael , in like 93,and we all have the boots and vests and bolos working . I go more for the pimp daddy look now days !
Looking forward to going home tommorow for under 24 hours . I will touch my stuff and then go out to start the tour with Ms. Stevie Nicks ....We are going to some places we dont usually go like Oklahoma Ciy . In 21 years we have never played in Oklahoma . We must have played Paris 50 times ,Sydney 50 times but Oklahoma nope. Heck my dad K.D. senior is from Gotebo Oklahoma . So I am expecting relatives to come out of the wood work !
Time to iron a shirt and do a show .......
