TV IN SYDNEY,BEEF POT PIE FOR BREAKFAST,WHERE THE HELL IS THE ICE, AND THE TASMIN SEA
Greetings form Australia.....
The first thing that we did was do an early morning TV show just like the Today show in the States. Jetlag wasnt a factor because we started in Hawaii. Left Honolulu at midnight so slept most of the way to Aukland then the time difference was like only one hour (different day) so no clock to flip ,worked out great . We also did a live radio show in front of 200 people . We played 6 songs and it was a lot of fun. The venue looked out onto the Sydney harbour bridge . That is one beautiful bridge.
The next day we got up early to fly to the Gold coast . So I got up went down the hill to Starbucks and because only the coffee is good there, I was scouting for something for breakfast to go with my starbucks, before I had to go to the airport . The only thing available were these beef pot pies . Now if you have never been to Oz I have to tell you that the Aussies are mad about meat pies. Now I know ,like most of you , we had the swanson's chicken pot pies as kids . but they are a big hit in this part of the world......Oh and here is another Culture clash.....
ICE........
What is up with the ice .....I guess we Americans must be the ice swillingest people on earth . First back in Europe ,forget an ice machine on the same floor of your hotel, god forbid. You have to get it from room service. In Paris they brought me a "bucket" of ice and the "bucket" was the cutest ,tinyest,we slip of a "bucket" I had ever seen . It contained like, 5 cubes .So i said I am going to need like 5 more of these. So toward the end of the week in Paris ,when we would come in at the end of the day ,the hotel dude would smile and say "Small trough of ice Mr. Johnson" And I would say "You bet your ass , Robespierre"
Back to the ice .So here in Oz I am staying on an executive floor . Which means I can sit in the lounge and look at the Tasmin sea and get free wireless and talk to you. It also means, as I was walking to my room that they have available ,"Complimentary Ice " That assumes that there is usually a charge for said ice. But hey, ....I go to my room and get the bucket and go to the aforementioned ice machine and I sh#t you not the brand of the ice machine was "The Scotsman"
"Aye....this is a thrifty ice machine ..sunny Jim" (Insert Scottish accent here)
So you put in the bucket and it has an electronic eye that starts the machine and you get about a third of the bbucket full and it shuts off...."Aye that will be enough ice for the likes of you ....boyo!"
Interesting......
I am at the Gold coast today and we played here 2 years ago for an Indy car race and everyone was all dressed up . We are playing the Melbourne cup race in a few days and all the Aussies tell me it is quite a bash so I will let you know how that goes .....Oh and a big shout out to my pal tony La Russa and the St. Louis Cardinals and their big world series win . We were "following " the game on a blackberry in the car on the way to the hotel I am now in . The blackberry tells you the inning , the score, the count and the batter so you actually can keep up in real time . We were in the car when Tony went to the mound right before the last strike then he whiffed and ...game over . I still prefer TV....Well I am going to go for a swim in the Tasmin Sea and then get ready for our 5 o'clock show today at a winery that sounds like "heaps" of fun as the Aussies say . Oh yeah the flies over here are not even scared of humans a little bit . It is like you are assigned your own private fly when you get off of the plane ....I am not whinging love Oz,it is one my very favorite places we go, but I just wante to keep you up to date on things over here ....Bye for now...
