TASMANIN DEVILS,FUNNY CAB DRIVERS,SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE,AND BUDGIE SMUGGLERS.
We finally leave Melbourne and head to Hobart Tasmania. It is raining like crazy and I am thinking how are we supposed to play outside .Well unlike the other winery shows ,the one in "Tassy" starts at 6 instead of 8 ,which is a BIG difference in the amount of alchohol damage that has occured. The show went great . There were about 2000 people spread out on the side of a hill. And after the show I met many of the Tassy people .. and they were very kind to me. They thanked me for coming to Hobart because it is kikd of out of the way . It is south of the continent of Australia and is an Island . And they all to the one said they had seen Chris and I on the " Andrew Denton Show" which we did last June ,when we were doing promo. On that show we sang "Hurt me so" by Jerry lee Lewis which we never do on tv. I finally got to hear an Aussie band ,Russ Wilson was the" blokes" name. Australia has a lot of good bands we never get to hear . they actually are guitar driven and write songs with melodies and wierd stuff like that . You can actually watch MTV here !!!! There is more than just Jet ,who I am a big fan of . I love thier new single "put your money where your mouth is "
Finally we get back to Sydney . What a town . One of the prettiest on the planet.
I took a cruise around the Harbour yesterday and it was a beautiful day . the Bridge is amazing and so is the famous Opera House , which we did a TV show from last tour thru here . I am actually looking at the Sydney Harbour Bridge from my computer .The cab drivers in this town are kinda interesting . The ones who are foriegn (Iran, Vietnamese, Macedonian etc.) understand me just fine but the Aussie blokes always ask me to repeat myself . They dont understand me at all ! I got into a cab this morning and the cab driver was from Viet Nam and he was hilarious! He asks me if I am a gangster from New York , he is giving me sh#t teasing me . Everyone over here thinks I look like the Sopranos. I tell him no I am from California and he says oh Like Arnold Swartsenegger and do I know him and is he bigger than me ? I tell him I dont know Arnie. Then I tell him there is a huge Vietnamese who plays Pro ball in the states .and he goes "Yeah Dat Ngyuen" and I say Oh I guess he would be famous in the Vietnamese community . I had to go downtown because my suitcase is on life support. It already has a name "Mr. Tatters" It looks like hell and is totally trashed but i am trying to get thru this Oz tour before getting a new one .Then the handle broke and it looks even worse . But very funny looking. We are hell on luggage . I go thru about one a year.
Every cab driver ask me which is more beautiful Sydney or San Francisco. And I say you cant compare towns .It doesnt work . It used to drive me crazy when people in Vancouver like to say Vancouver is like San Francisco. It is nothing like San Francisco. It is different .
Ok so I am getting ready to go do soundcheck and do three sold out nights here in Sydney. Man I am so greatfull for all the success we have had on this record over in OZ. The people are really turning out . The language barrier is real intersting . They use words that we know but just never use . Like rekon. no one uses that in the US . But they gave us "No Worries" and every dumb ass in the states says that now . Believe you me there are worries. But I am going to lay on you my very favorite so far. I kept reading in the Aussie paper about " dont wear a budgie smuggler to the beach this summer" it is the beginning of summer here. I finally figured out they were talking about a "speedo'" bathing suit.Very descriptive. dont you think?
