DAVID LYNCH,SANTANA,BOUGAINVILLEA, AND STEVIE NICKS AT THE SUPERBOWL
WHEW......Sorry I have been away so long gang ! I have been on an extended break and didnt really have anything exciting to write about . You know doing things I dont get a chance to do when I am out on the road. Like , I cut back my 5 bougainvillea bushes and covered them because It Froze here in California and it rarely freezes here . I tell you this because I bunched all the branches up and threw them , with thorns mind you, in the back of the SUV and took off for the city dump . Or Basurrero in spanish , I just love that word. So after I dump the load I look around and the car and me are covered in leaves and dirt and my arms are all scratched and bloody from the thorns on the Bougainvillea . So I think ,Hey, I will go down to the local car wash and get the car cleaned. And as always happens when you look your worse you bump into someone. There I am waiting for them to finish my car when who should walk up but Calrlos Santana!
Of course here he comes and he is dressed to the nines ! He is wearing all of these amazing garments . I dont really know him but we live in the same town and so I say hi and tell him I play drums with Hairdoo (Isaak) and he is very graceous and we talk about touring and playing music and it was really nice of him not to sick his bodyguard ,who was with him,on me because I looked a mess . I have on an old work shirt and dirty kakis and scrached up arms and leaves on me . And he is probably thinking "Maybe I should hire the homeless for my band like Isaak does and save some dough"
The other night Isaak and I had a great time .David Lynch was showing his new movie"Inland Empire" at the Rafael theater in San Rafael . David Lynch was very important in our career . He put "Wicked Game" in his movie "Wild At Heart" and because of that ,it started to get airplay and then it became a hit here and in England .So Isaak goes why dont we go and play some songs for David at his presentation . We show up on Friday night at the theater and one of his people says that David will introduce the movie then he wants to go to dinner . As he has seen the movie. They ask Isaak if he wants to see the three hour picture or go to dinner , and Isaak goes I can see the movie anytime but it isnt every day that you can go to dinner with David Lynch . So David intros the movie and Isaak and I sing a couple of songs , they start the movie and we are off to dinner . We stay at this dinner down the street from the theater for three hours drinking red wine and waiting for the movie to finish . We talked about a lot of things but we were remembering a night we spent together years ago when David , who had just finished filming the first "Wicked Game " video, brought ROY ORBISON to see us play at the Roxy in L.A. I practically soiled myself . I mean Roy is a god in Texas music history ! Then we walk back and David did a question and answer session after the movie which was awesome . The people who came to the special screening had these very technical questions to ask David . And man David was fascinating to listen to . Then to cap a perfectly fantastic evening Isaak and I did a couple of more songs and we had David Lynch play maracas with us on "Baby did a Bad Bad Thing " and The crowd of adoring David Lynch fans went beserk ......
Coming up we have some pretty fantastic news . We are going to play the tailgate party in Miami for the SUPERBOWL and we are doing it with Stevie Nicks !
We are also going to announce that we will be doing about 20 dates with Stevie Nicks across the country in May and man we are jacked about that . I remember when we were making the Christmas CD Stevie was nice enough to come and sing a duet with Isaak . So we are in the studio and man to hear that amazing voice of hers about 2 feet away ,was stunning . She has one of the most amazing voices on the planet. So they are working on the song and Stevie says to me "Hey Kenney what would you sing here on this part" and as I look up from my magazine... dumb struck . DUUUUH WHAAA..... No, I say Criminey ,your the Stevie Nicks how am I going to give you pointers!!!!! She is great to be around . She was on our TV show too and was a lot of fun to hang with . Remind me to tell you the story about the cards .....Anywho while we are at the superbowl Isaak and I are going to be like roving reporters for the EXTRA tv show . They have been very nice to us . As you may remember we played a bunch of songs on that show last year and I heard from more people about seeing that show than you would believe. And I am telling you Mark McGrath is funny . Now you know.
