A FRENCH TELETHON,THE DI VINCI CODE,AND RIDING ON THE METRO-O-O...
Hey folks...I have been in Paris now for a week and it has been a lot of fun. We have been doing TV and radio shows . I just found out I have to get up to do a morning radio show at 6:30 ,tommorow. Man it takes a lot of coffee to get the voice ready to sing at that early hour! We did a show over at the Canal Plus studios that I have been to many times . They used to tape a show over there that we did a bunch of times. that had these life size "Guignols" or puppets to you and me . They made them look like current political people and even though it was in French , it was still ,somehow, funny......Anywho ...so we go over there and Audrey Tautou is on the show ,you know her from the Di Vinci Code, she is with this French actor dude and they are promoting a French movie they did,and they are on the panel and the host asks Isaak questions through an interpreter and that almost never works . And this time it didnt either . Chris just took out the ear piece and the actor with Audrey told Chris in english what was asked . Then I come out and Audrey is very cordial to me when we meet and then Chris and I sing "Blue Hotel" for the umpteenth time . Blue Hotel was a hit over here years ago so that is what they all want to hear. Oh yeah and they smoke so many cigarettes over here that the green room looked like the christmas tree had caught on fire....Well we finished up and went over to try and take a nap because we were to perform 2 songs on this huge national French Telethon at 1:30 in the morning with the Eiffle Tower in the background. We were in a tent just below the Trocadero and when the cameras shot us the Eiffel Tower started going off with all these chase lights and ...anyway it was pretty amazing.
Speaking of the Di Vinci .....I went to the louvre today and as I have been before I wasnt prepared for how much they have fixed it up . I went probably 10 years ago but it is REALLY well organized now and cleaner. Dont get me wring it is still mind bendingly HUGE. But you can kind of handle it . I dont think you could see the whole museum in a lifetime .
It is hard to explain to someone who has never seen it . It is like a hundred times larger than any big museum . They have the Mona Lisa there , Winged victory, Napoleon III 's apartment !!!!!!!,and what is really cool you can go in the basement and see the remains of the moat and the main wall from when it was a fort ...man was it creepy ....in a good way . As you can tell I had a blast.
Also whie we were here we had a very French religeous experience. WE SAW JOHNNY HALLIDAY!!!!!!!1
I know, I know, he is unknown in the states but here in France he is like if Elvis hadnt died ! He invited us backstage to meet him and he was very gracious. How French is this .....he had a girl backstage in his dressing room who just poured Champagne for his guests TRES COOL.......Then someone says hey Johnny's drummer knows you Kenney and I am like ...really ,well go get him . And it turns out ....man it is a small world .Iit is Geoff Dugmore who was the drummer for the Thompson Twins when we toured the states with them back in 87. I hadnt seen him since then . Oh man we got to telling stories and had a great time .Oh yeah and when I was at the Louvre today I ran into Russ. a guy I know from California . How wierd is that ?
Anywho.....you know generally ,I am not a fan of public transit but the Metro here in Paris really rocks . You can get anywhere in Paris in a flash . Which I hate to say you cant get anywhere here in a car in a flash because traffic is unreal . It is pretty much grid lock . I hope they figure that one out because otherwise Paris is just the most wonderfull place........Well I better think of going to bed early so I will be at my best tommorow, on the radio show.......Yeah right !
