ATLANTIC CITY,LAST NIGHT WITH STEVIE,AND BOSTON MEMORIES......

I am doing some serious back dating here .....We are in Dana Point California now after playing a private show here last night. I am a little behind on the blog so here goes . Let's get in the wayback machine and dial it up to a couple of weeks ago . Let's start in the very strange town of Atlantic City . We played at the Borgatta which is a vey nice Casino actually . Remind me to tell you the very long embarrassing story about me , Joe Walsh, Smokey, and the Foo Fighters , that happened to me last year at the Borgatta . We have played in Atlantic City many times over the years with many strange memories to go with it . One time we were playing Trump Taj Mahal with Bonnie Raitt ,I think. Anyway Donald Trump comes over to Chris and kinda big times Chris in front of his friends....he ask Chris if everything is Ok . Chris goes well.......my bath tub is clogged up!!!!!! Took him down a peg ....I also remember one time Jimmy Acevedo , our old monitor dude , and I were going swimming outside the hotel there in AC . Now ....I look at the water and think "What the hell were we thinking". The water looks filthy . I suppose there is an exceptable amount of medical waste ! But hey, the Strombolis are still top notch in Atlantic City. They dont even have Strombolis on the west coast . On that tip. Jimmy Paxon ,Stevie's drummer , who is from Atlantic City , .....( who in the hell is from Atlantic City ? ) Insisted that he bring me a sandwich form the white house restuarant . He says they are the best in the world . And you know what he was right .......
We then moved on to Boston for the final show with Stevie Nicks ...The last show was a lot of fun . On the song Bonnie Bee ,Stevie's road crew all came out and danced around the stage . With the very disturbed Mark Scaggs rubbbing his nipples on my back whilest I played . That boy aint right .
Earlier that day I walked around the Washington street area . Oh man what a memory I have of that place . Back like in '93 we were playing an outside show on that mall right next to the Filene's department store . And they still have/had those 1930's style awnings You know , the ones that come out perpendicular to the wall and are about 10 inches thick . Well during the song Diddley Daddy , Johnny Reno and Isaak left the stage ran into the store ,while we were playing , and suddenly appeared on the awning just a wailing away ......the people's jaws were on the floor . I always call johnny from there when I am in front of Filene's just to remind him . He told me he was actually terrified because there were wholes in the awning and ,who knows, nobody had stood on that awning since, like the Truman administration !!!!!!!
One other quick Boston note . One of the coolest things ever was Isaak and I got to sing the national anthem at Fenway Park in Boston ,ON TED WILLIAMS DAY !!!!!! ahhhh I remember the old fashioned sentimentality of the announcer introducing the Ted Williams family from the top of the dug out steps . And I was sitting next to the catcher Tony Pena and he was spitting tobacco juice on either side of Ted's daughter's patent leather shoes . He never hit them though . One of the coolest things about the day is that Chris and I received an autographed baseball by Ted Williams and apparantly his is second only to Dimaggio for rarity . Long story short. I come home one day after going to the barber and I see that my then new Labrador puppy , lucy, had shredded a baseball on the living room floor . Now I had like 8 baseballs all in plastic cases . And I yelled
" Please let it be the Kent Hrbek baseball, oh baseball gods " But no .........it was the Ted Williams ball.......
to answer the question you are asking right now ......Yes I still have Lucy ten years later ....As my fellow Texas drummer Don Heley says.....It is all about... " Forgiveness.......Forgiveness.......even if .........even if ........I dont have a baseball anymore..."
Next stop Temecula in the desert....
