THREE GREAT NORTHWEST VENUES,RON THOMPSON ON A PINK BICYCLE, AND WHEN TROMBONES ATTACK!!!!!
We just got back from three really fun shows in the great northwest. The tour bus actually dropped me off in front of my house . Which caused quite a stir in the old 'hood. Not a common sight really . ....Only took out a couple of sycamore trees....
The show at Chateau St. Michelle, outside of Seattle is really pretty and a lot of folks showed up . It is a fun show to play and we have played there like 3 times now. It is cool, the dressing rooms are in an old farmhouse that is on the hysterical ,I mean historical sites map. Which believe you me isnt the norm. After the show we bussed it to Bend Oregon . And the venue in Bend is really bucolic ! It is on the Dechutes river and they have inner tubes for rafting and bicycles for riding around which brings me to my buddy Ron Thompson ,who is opening some of our shows. Now stay with me on this one, Ron is wearing a snow white silk zoot suit with a jacket that comes down to his knees and it is like 90 degrees outside. Better to look good than feel good, right Ron ! Anywho there just happens to be a shocking pink bicycle back stage . So Ron decides to ride it on stage ,when they say his name . Wow......what a vision . Ron has on the white suit with matching hat and a pink bicycle and he glides up on stage and just KILLS on guitar then rides off . Later in the show Isaak has Ron come up and sit in with us and ,again , here comes Ron on the Pink bicycle but this time he is holding on to the guitar as he rides . Quite a sight . Scotty and I were in hysterics. Man I do love showbizness !!!!!
Then off to Portland......
On the other side of the showbizness coin........
We were staying at this new hotel in Portland the one we usually stay at had plumbing problems .Now it is a very nice hotel and through no fault of their own, meyhem ensues. Picture this . It is about 8 a.m. and we got in from Bend around 5 a.m. So we are just getting back to sleep and what do you imagine we hear ? A beautiful meadowlark singing ..perhaps....or..... maybe the gentle breeze at first light ? Nooooooooo.......some jackass is on the building,across the street practicing his TROMBONE scales at 8 in the morning . Waw.....waw.....waw....waw....waw...waw.....waw.......I am thinking where is Ashton Kutcher ...we must be getting punked !!!
But no...someone actually felt the need to share his trombone scales with the whole world at 8 in the morning . Isaak said that he complained to the front desk and they came up to his room and said "What seems to be the matter Mr. Isaak .....OH MY GOD IS THAT A TROMBONE !!!!"
Oh by the way do you know how to get a trombone player off of your porch ? Pay for the pizza !
just thought I would share . Now I knew you wouldnt believe that trombone story but it really happened.... unfortunately .
Much later, that very same day we went out to yet, another gorgeous winery called the Edgewood winery in Troutdale . Doesnt that sound great ! ....Anywho that was a beautiful winery and we had a blast playing there for all our Oregonian pals ...
I have been home the last couple of days and I am really enjoying the HOT weather . It was 95 yesterday ,in the shade . We play the Mountain Winery in Saratoga the next three nights. And boy do I have some great memories of that place . The Mountain Winery is where we played with Roy Orbison for three nights a few years ago . I remember Isaak actually said to me "Come with me I want to play Roy my new songs and I want you so sing them with me " And I am all....Are you kidding me ...he is like the Jesus of West Texas . You want me to sing in front of Roy Orbison ?
Well we did and he could'nt have been nicer to Isaak and myself ........I feel very lucky to have had those three days . .....
Man......how is your cellphone doing ? Can you hear me now .????? I have been fighting with my cellphone all tour and the contract is up in August .....do any of you gentle people have any suggestions ? Is any one company better than the other .
