THE FILLMORE , THE NEW TV SHOW , AND OZ

I Just got back from downtown Honolulu Hawaii and I am giving my legs a rest . So I thought I would do a blog . There has been so much going on the last month that I don't know where to begin . We played four nights at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco and that was a blast . I think Saturday night was one of our best shows ever. We recorded it and our old friend Mark Needham told me that it had some good moments as did Friday night so maybe we will get a live CD out of it .....Mark's wife Pauline shamed me into writing a new blog . Thanks Pauline !
Anywho as you all know I love music history and the Fillmore IS musical history . Joel Selvin the music critic at the San Francisco Chronicle , came down and told us some stories about the famous Fillmore posters. Really cool......
I didn't see a lot of my old friends because I had to run out of the gig so I could get home and pee my dog Sammy. You know, Priorities! Plus I have some pretty scarey "pasts" in San Francisco.
The biggest thing on our plate these days is the new TV show we are doing for the BIO channel it is affiliated with A&E. We have now shot 5 episodes and WHEW they are work but I think that you guys will really like them . Now the first show we had Glenn Campbell ,who has a new CD out . And he was amazing . We combined his band and our band to form a 14 piece monstrosity !!! That was Glenn's idea.
We did "Rhinestone Cowboy", " Witchita Limeman" and "Galveston" those songes were in my head for days . Great pop songs...We had 2 of everything 2 drums, 2 bass..you get the idea it was a blast. Roger Manning is his keyboard player . He used to do shows with us in San Francisco when he was in Beatnik Beach and Jellyfish. Small world. Generally how it works is we play the music then Chris interviews the guests and they cut it together . I mean Glenn Campbell played on all those songs in the sixties like the Beach Boys , The Mama and Papas, Dean Martin, and Sinatra. Next we did our good friend Stevie Nicks she brought her guitar player the mighty Waddy Wachtel . We got to know them from the tour we did with them last year . I remember during that tour I was listening to the radio and heard "It's so easy to fall in love " by Linda Rhonstadt and when I heard the guitar solo I thought that has to be Waddy . So I asked him and he said that it was him and he sang me his guitar solo !!
We did "Red River valley" which Stevie killed and we did Rickie Nelson's" it's late "
Michael Buble was on next and he brought his 14 piece band and man were they smoking . Isaak and I saw Buble when he played in Chicago last year . And he brought up Chris on stage and Chris sat in with them for one song on our TV show . When Buble sees me he always says " Hey Kenney they still have your picture up at the Crab Shack in Vancouver"
Next up , oh my god , the band Chicago . They were amazing they have been together for 41 years !!!!!!!!
They have us whipped by a long shot. I asked Lee loughnane their trumpet player if there was any town he hadn't been to . He reckoned there isn't one . I reminded their trombone player Jim Pankow about this gig we all did in Chicago one time . This story is one of our favorites in the Isaak lore. Us , Chicago , Sheryl Crow and James Taylor were all playing this private show for Lexus dealers . They put up this gigantic tent up by the Buckingham fountain in the park. Now Sheryl Crow was closing the show and me and the guys in Chicago Lee and Jim are watching from the wings when all the sudden Sheryl's power went out EEEEEEeeeeeeerrrrrrr nothing. Somebody forgot to gas up the generator providing the power for this very expensive show . So now Sheryl is looking around the stage all confused and the Lexus people are getting up and leaving and right then the guys in Chicago start shouting "YOUR LOSING THEM .....YOUR LOSING THEM " I laughed my ass off . Yes it was mean spirited but DAMN that was funny . Also Bill Champlin plays with Chicago and I don't know if you dear readers were fans of his old band "The Sons Of Champlin" But Holy Shit I was ,back in high School in Borger Texas . We were huge fans of his and he still sings his ass off . I went into the control booth so I could hear him sing "Make me smile" perfectly. If I could sing like that I wouldn't talk to anybody!
That was one fun day . Speaking of unreal singers , Trisha Yearwood was next . Mother of God can she sing. We did some of her songs . "Wrong side of memphis" , "Cowboys are my weakness" and 'Walking after Midnight" and "Walk Away Joe" She brought her guitar player Johnny Garcia from Texas and We also played Chris' song "Breaking Apart" Which Our manager Sheryl just played for me over the phone and it sounds really cool. She is thinking of putting it out. Who knows. Trisha is such a sweet person and an amazing talent . Between takes her and Isaak were thinking of all the Elvis songs they know and were singing them !!!!!! Sometimes I have to pinch myself.
Well we play here in Honolulu tomorow then another day off here . I think Isaak and I are going to rent a car and drive over to the north shore. It is amazing there Waimea beach the pipeline and Hawaiian shave ice with beans at Matsumoto's in Haleiva that is living brother. When we were in Waimea last year ,it was in may, so the waves were not winter big, I got my ass kicked swimming there . In a good way, lots of fun. Then off to Australia on halloween . We will do press there as we have a live CD we recorded there in Melbourne 2 years ago . We will be on our old buddy Rove's show on Sunday and we are going to the Melbourne Cup race and Chris is going to be a judge on Australian Idol .......Whhhaaaa ? Just a quick note, if you are ever in Honolulu , make sure you go to the Side Street Inn . It is a funky locals restaurant that is awesome . I go as often as I can.
So now what am I doing talking to you lot while Waikiki Beach is right out my door ~~~
Off with you now I have to go for a paddle .
