THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL,CRAIG FERGUSON AND NINE INCH NAILS

Hello to all . It has been quite awhile since my last blog . But as I have been home most of that time I don't write much when I am home . You know , got up had eggs, walked the dog , went to the hardware store . Stuff like that isn't that "bloggable". But seeing how's we have started a new tour here we go .
The first week of July we all trundled down to Los Angeles for production rehearsals. Us and every other knucklehead band is over at center staging getting ready for the summer onslaught. On the main we were putting together a new show with some of our new songs but on Wednesday the Hollywood Bowl orchestrater came to rehearsal .Luckily ...he has a sense of humor because it was two different worlds colliding. He had received a gig tape to use to write out all the orchestra parts ,TALK ABOUT HOMEWORK, then he came to hear us and make any perceived adjustments. Well naturally there were problems but we finally hammered them out . So we finished in time for me to fly back up to the bay area in time for the fourth of july . I am never home on the Fourth of July !!!!! Before I left the studio I had heard that Nine Inch Nails was rehearsing next door . And I also knew that my ol' pal josh Freeze was playing drums . So I stopped by and said hi to Josh and the nails had equipment strewn all over the place . you would thing that if anyone would know, it would be Trent Reznor , neatness counts. Oh by the way Josh had a see thru snare drum with popcorn seed in the insides , I LIKES.....
I decided to stay home and not go to the Marin county fair . I mean Night Ranger isn't playing to why bother !
it is also kind of strange to be "home" during a tour . Here is what I mean . We started at Wente Bros. winery in the Livermore valley and it is like an hours drive from my house . So I drive myself down there and back home . Well let me tell you mister I pulled into the town of Livermore and it was 108 degrees . Oh Shit ..... that means I have to get on stage in full sun and basically rehearse because we have all of these new songs . You know what that means ....I have to PAY ATTENTION ...IN THE HEAT ..
Well by the time the sun went down it was very nice and I drove back home afterwards for one more day off at home . Then back to L.A. to do the Hollywood Bowl...
HOLYSHIT.........I had never been to the Bowl and it was awesome . There are pictures backstage of the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix , Sinatra in the 40s and on and on . Very Historical.
Here are the songs they orchestrated for the concert. Only the lonely , return to me , Wicked game , San Francisco Days , Sinatra's All the way , and Baby Did a bad bad thing......Baby did with an orchestra was off the hook !!!!!
I had so much fun I was smiling from ear to ear . It SO POWERFUL.
Picture this I had the great Thomas Wilkins ,the conductor , back to back with me . He facing the orchestra . So all of them were behind our band. So when it was time to play the next song , I would say " Ready Thomas " and he would say yeas then I would count the song off and the whole lumbering monster would be off and running . It was truly incredible .
A few days after that we went on the Craig Ferguson show down in hollywood . That is a fun show to do . We did James Brown's " I'll go crazy" which a lot of you know we have been doing live for some time . I am very proud to have played a james Brown song on TV . He was one of my heros. That song is going on the new CD . We Recorded a bunch of nights in Melbourne
Australia a while back and we have a live recording of it ....
In closing I hope we are coming close to your town this summer and we have a new show with a bunch of the new songs and all the favorites as well . I am pretty excited . We are playing Humphreys in San Diego tonight . It is a hard place to describe . it is one of our favorite place to play as we have played here many many times over the years . It is an amphitheater on a marina and my hotel room looks at the front of the stage . Strange I know . I have been watching the crew set things up while I type .
Anywho see you guys on the road .
Your Pal
