THE SYDNEY BRIDGE,WOOLONGONG,SAN FRANCISCO FOURTY NINERS,& THANKSGIVING ABROAD.
We did it .....Some of us went up and did the Sydney harbour bridge climb. Man is it awesome. the Bridge is shaped in a hump and you walk up to the top and you can see a very long way and the view is beautiful!!!! First you have to take a breathalyzer test ,which I passed ,thank you very much. Then you take alll your money out and they put you in a jump suit with a harness and they attach you to a cable for the length of the walk. It is totally safe .You can't fall if you tried . There is a wide walk way and there is such a surreal disconnect to what you are seeing that you dont get scared. If you ever get the chance do it ..........
We played in one of my favorite little towns here called Wollongong. It has a pretty Lighthouse and a place we played on our first trip to Australia called the "woolshed" . It is like a Texas honky tonk and I wished I could have seen our faces when we pulled up to it . It would have been like the "Blues Brothers" more than likely. But we ended up having a great time and we didnt have to play "Rawhide' once!
I am going to spend Thankgiving abroad and it isnt the first time, but I will really miss it . It is so much fun . I hope that the football games are on at least. I am at this moment watching the Fourty Niners and , incredibly , they are winning. It hasnt been easy being a Fourty Niner Faithfull the last few years.
The first thanksgiving abroad was when we were playing at a radio convention at Euro Disney. My hotel room had the hippos with tu-tus ,from Fantasia, on the bathroom tiles. Tres cool. Anyway the f French went out of there way to make us Thanksgiving dinner. And I figure how hard can it be and sure enough it was fine except they came to us with hat in hand and said there must have been some mistake . Possibly a typo. Because surely no one would seriously make a pie out of pumpkin ! Swear to God.
Another time we came close . Chris and I were in london to promote "Wicked game" and when I asked the record company dude if we were getting Per dium , he said awww just charge whatever to the hotel . BIG mistake. So for 2 weeks I was prisoner of the Hilton holland park but we had a great time. So we flew back home on Thanksgiving day and it was also the same day they threw Margaret Thatcher out of office. I wonder if "Wicked Game" brings back bad memories to Ol' Margaret ? We were in London in the first place because "Wicked Game" was a hit because of the David Lynch movie ". It didnt sound like anything else on the radio at the time . Funny how life turns on a dime. Anywho I didnt miss Thanksgiving because we actually touched down in San Franciso on Thanksgiving day. And I went straight over to my old friend "Stinky's" house for Thanksgiving . Stinky is a chef . I have lost touch with good old Stinky. We used to play music around SF a little bit . He was in a band called "Buck Naked and the Bare Bottom Boys"........We used to run around South of market in San Francisco and raise hell...
Oh well......We play a show tonight in Geelong which is outside of Melbourne and it is one of the few places here we havent all ready played.
THERE YOU GO......
