BIG FLOWERS LITTLE FLOWERS,SINGING IN FRONT OF MILLIONS,AND HERE WE GO OFF TO SING AND SWING IN AMERICA...
It sure has been fun and very unusual, I might add to be home and "on tour " at the same time. I will have been home for eleven days total whilst playing the mountain winery for three days , Wente ,and Rodney Strong. DANG......I was even home on the 4th of July ! It has been a lot of fun to hang in the back yard because I have a California Pepper tree ,it looks like a willow, and it has been blooming like crazy . It has these tiny yellow flowers about the size of a big pin head and the bees loose their minds over those things . In fact in the morning ,that tree "hums' there are so many bees in it ......Next to it is the most amazing tree. It is a Brugmanzia or commonly an Angel's Trumpet . It has flowers that extend about 12 inches from the branch but the last 6 inches is a butter yellow "trumpet" that is gorgeous and plus in the morning and the evening it puts off a fragrance that will knock you down .....in a good way . The bees love it too......No bee shortage in my back yard !
Yeah ...yeah ...I know ...You want to hear about the All-star game ......
Now remember Isaak and I have done the anthem dozens of times all around the country and , believe you me , it is just as hard and nerve wracking as people have told you .....Except this time it is in front of millions of people . I remember one time we were doing the anthem years ago for the Giants and the great Will Clark says to us right before we sing " Hey , try and not screw it up OK " Thanks Will.......
So this deal lasts all day .We get to the stadium to do a sound check at 11 a.m. , you know, the network needs to know how long we are going to sing the song . And they need to time the jet fly over . Hang with me here ...another time we were doing the anthem and no one bothered to tell us that when we got to " The rocket's red glare " part they were going to set off a buttload of fireworks . Well they did and Chris and I both ducked and were like Son O' a B##ch !!!!!!!!
Anywho ,like I said, we were there all day but that was cool because I havnt seen a nicer "new" stadium . It is a great hang and I got to see a lot of old friends and some players. I didnt get to say hi to our old friend Tony La Russa but I bet he was busy . So busy he forgot to play Pujols......Just kidding Tony......dont hit me ......not the face Tony .....not the face.......
So for ,like, 6 hours you wait around for your 60 seconds of terror . Nah I am kidding but you do have to psyche your self out . Plus our friend Rich in Chicago had sent me a new camel colored suit for the occasion. I dont know if you are aware but Isaak has his own line of suits that the good folks at Hart,Schaffner, and Marks are making and distributing.
"New from Hart,Schaffner, and Marx .....THE HAIRDOO ......line of men's suits!!!!!!!! "
So I have to keep this beautiful light colored suit clean for all this time . No coffee ,no mustard ect.......hey but I made it . I think the anthem went well and it was cool because I have been getting calls from all over . My friend Charlie called to tell me he saw us sing from a Jetblue plane going from D.C to San Francisco . Just think people were throwing beer nuts at the screen in bars all over this great land of ours !!!!!!!
Small world. After the game I went back to the hotel to get my car to drive home and on the corner I bump into Kenny Williams . He is the guy who lets us hang out in his sky box in Chicago because he is the general manager of the Chicago White Sox . If your not sure what that is . He is the guy who actually trades and swaps players to get the maximum team . He put together the world champion White Sox of a few years ago ........We didnt chat long, which is too bad ,because I wanted to hear some more Nolan Ryan stories !!!!!!
Well we play Wente winery tonight then Rodney Strong winery on Saturday ,which is a place we have never played. I love playing new places . After 22 years they get fewer and farther between!!!!!
I am looking forward to a great tour the next several weeks and I hope to see you at some of the shows .
